An experienced freelance photographer, writer and guest blogger, Lynda's feature interviews and writing focus on entrepreneurial and creative women's stories, lifestyle, environment, food, and travel. She has contributed to Bazaar Magazine www.bazaar.town bazaar.town/realizing-the-green-dream (the leading glossy publication in Kuwait and the Gulf region), as well New Yorker Magazine newyorker.com/books/page-turner/dark-side-of-the-spoon-the-moods-and-recipes-of-nigel-slater.
"The experience of not only visiting, but living in diverse cultures, meeting people from every walk of life and every corner of the globe, has made me an observer of how people live in and interact with their environment, and with one another. Photography allows me to both observe and interact with people and their place, even if just for a moment. I'm always looking for the details that might tell a story or offer a perspective on every day human experiences. Sometimes it's the setting, other times it's a gesture, an expression or interaction between people that catches my eye. I'm also drawn to the recently vacated spaces that people use and occupy in every day life - I find myself imagining what might have happened in that space just a few moments previously - or what might happen when I'm no longer looking; every space created for human use or occupation has myriad stories to tell. "
Lynda grew up in South Africa, and her first experience of international travel was to the island of Mauritius: "Although it was a work trip and I didn't explore as much as I would have liked to, the few days I spent visiting this beautiful island country whetted my appetite to experience cultures that were different to my own."
Initially relocating to London from Cape Town (South Africa), Lynda has since travelled in Europe, the Middle East, India, and the Caribbean, and has called diverse locations home-for-now, including: London and Glasgow (UK), Dusseldorf (Germany), Rome (Italy), Cyprus, Kuwait, and New York. Lynda and her family currently live in the vibrant, historic city of Zagreb, Croatia.
Whilst living in Kuwait, Lynda attended a specialist Street Photography workshop in Dubai, with Mimo Khair & Michael Kistler of FindingYourselfInTheStreets, an experience which not only confirmed her passion for the genre of Street Photography, but also inspired her to share this passion with others, leading to her facilitating regular, popular workshops, focussing on Street Photography and Mobile Photography.
She also went on to work on a project that led to the first solo, fine art exhibition of her work in Kuwait, titled Souk of the Soul: "The images show the every day moments of the people and spaces found in the historic Souk Mubarakiya, and a selection of images from this exhibition is featured on this site as Quiet Stories. It was an exciting opportunity for me, as the exhibition was self-curated from conception to delivery, and it was gratifying that I got positive feedback from visitors, particularly as so many of them were familiar with the souk in its busier moments, and hadn't previously noticed certain people or details."
